We'll we made it back safe and sound with no problems. The final day involved more sections in Dumfries including a tight 30 minute one where some crews picked up penalties. This started with a run though a forest collecting code boards a quick run up the road to another forest for more code boards. We got in with about 1min to spare but other crews were caught out by this particularly snappy part of the route. A quick run west via Annan bypass took us to Gretna services for the competitive finish and then the run to warrington for results and awards.

Saturday's report:

Further north into the scotish borders with sections around, new Castleton, Langholm finishing for the night in Lockerbie. Heavy rainfall and thick fog with difficult navigation saw us rise to the challenge, running 1st on the road for a while and 3rd into the overnight halt despite setting off 33rd at the day start. The night time section was cancelled due to the weather, but the organisers fitted in a table top nav ex and we hope we feel confident we did well.

Talking to others we lost marks on the days early sections but appear to have done better on the later ones. the event has yet to see any serious off road but who knows what tomorrow will bring.

drivers briefing is at 8'30 once again

The treasure hunt style instructions took us north to the m56 then to the m6 and north to Lancaster before heading into the dales. Ingleton, Hawes, Buttertubs, tan hill took us to the overnight halt near Barnard castle.

Tomorrow sees drivers briefing at 8'30 with up away at 9.33

Well its getting close - setting off soon.

In desparate need of some relays as the place I bought them has sent the wrong ones, been sent changeover relays and needed the 5pin type that switch to 2 outlets - so at the moment its one of a pair of sptlights or the other all the time and never both, so have pulled the relays for now.

Hopefully will get some somewhere tomorrow before we need the lights.

Still need to bolt spare wheel carrier to the roof rack but can't do that till Alison gets home or Amy goes to bed so for now thought I'd update here.

Other than that I think its just a case of throwing the gear in and we're away.

What is the Macmillan 4x4 Challenge?

Its a three day event covering around 1000 miles for 4x4 vehicles. The start is near Ludlow in Shropshire and the finish is in Warringtion, Chesire - in between anything goes and we won't find out till we start each section. - more details www.mac4x4.co.uk

Before during and after the event each crew is raising money for Macmillans Cancer Support, with every penny raised going to the charity. you can donate by going to www.justgiving.com/mac4x4nissan . So far we've rasied in excess of £800 but we started late being a reserve entry. Event will have rasied in excess of £500,000 by the end of this year across the 7 runnings of the event.

Neil Howson and I (Simon Bentley) are competing in my Nissan Terrano II, complete with a few modifications. 2" suspension lift, larger tyres, extra lights inside and out etc.

Still a few jobs to do but we'll be setting off for our overnight digs near Ludlow about 6pm today, the event itself kicks off at midday Friday 6th March, but there pre event stuff to do before that.

Internal wirings done and all the nechanical jobs but still need to wire the new fuse box under the bonnet and connect the lights.

Then its just stow all the gear and get away.........

Will do my best to pop on here and keep it up dated as the event progresses, net access allowing.
